The Farmhouse Renovation & Restoration
Originally built in 1898, this restoration / renovation gave the Farmhouse charm & character like never before.
One afternoon in May 2017, we came across a farmhouse in Tyne Valley that was in critical need of relocation and some tender loving care.
During a conversation with the owner, we learned that the house is an impressive 119 years old and was originally part of a larger residence (see image below). We were captivated by the idea of preserving its history and giving it a new lease on life.
And so with that, on December 19, 2017, The Farmhouse was moved 4 kilometers from its original site to its new home in Birch Hill . Although the distance was short, the move required extensive support, and we were fortunate to have plenty of helpers on the big day. The Farmhouse had been resting on steel beams, and the moving truck had been prepared well in advance. When the moving day arrived, the house was guided by traffic controllers and loaders, all while being cheered on by numerous spectators, many of whom shared cherished memories of The Farmhouse. Power lines were temporarily moved to allow the house to pass before it was expertly placed on its new foundation. The timing was impeccable—just days earlier, the ground would have been too saturated for the move, so we owe a thank you to Mother Nature!
The next phase for The Farmhouse brought the opportunity for this charming home to truly shine once more. It underwent a thorough renovation, introducing delightful new features such as a wraparound deck, a luxurious loft space designed to have a retreat feel, and a spacious open-plan kitchen and dining area. The original floorboards and staircase were beautifully restored, with the staircase holding a special significance for us; it was one of the standout features that captured our hearts when we first laid eyes on the property, and we recognized its potential right from the beginning.
In 2024, The Farmhouse was sold, and we hope the new owners enjoy it as much as we did. It was a remarkable project for us, and we took great joy in hearing about the wonderful times our guests experienced during their stays. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited; it was a true pleasure to host you all.
